Its all about Intimacy and connections
I'm a big fan of elopements and micro weddings. In fact, I had one myself... on a tiny island in Thailand (find my elephant) . Its not just a ceremony anymore, but an entire experience with your closest people. I forget what a great destination San Diego makes for an elopement. You can say easily say "I Do" on top of a dreamy sea cliff and sail away after to the your favorite r&b playlist as the sun sets. Alexis and Dominic did just that and I couldn't be more honored they chose me to document it all. It was all good vibes and a whole lot of love.
It was a 30-guests wedding and I was the only photographer. Not a problem! The bride approached the ceremony from afar, so I had time to run to the back and get the groom's heartfelt reaction. As she closed in, I went to the front to capture her making it down the aisle. Ceremonies have quick big moments and its my job to get as many angles as possible! The ceremony was beautiful with everyone fully locked in the moment.
Creating portraits is part of the memories
Capturing the ceremony candidly is only small part of wedding photography. My job is also to set up opportunities for shots and encourage/create fun moments to be photographed as keepsakes. Everyone traveled from Colorado so they needed to have amazing family photos afterwards. I took the lead to reposition everyone towards the light so that the exposure was balanced with the beautiful background. For bigger groups, I took the time to stack their ceremony chairs into a front row for a clean arrangement. Then we took some smaller group photos under the ceremony arch. It worked out well and everyone had so much fun just being photographed together! We had some extra time, so I also wanted to do some fun celebratory group candid shots with the umbrellas. Everyone was happy to roll with it, this was my type of crowd!
After Sunset cliffs, we sailed through the beautiful San Diego bay on Dave Champagne Yacht. They danced and drank past iconic scenes of San Diego including downtown, the coronado bridge, and seaport village. Then, they anchored down while everyone made emotional speeches during the sunset. It was like a movie, it was perfect.
